COVID-19 Update — July 28, 2020
Last week SVRA sent an email notifying us that the Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen is still on. There will be no spectators and limited family and crew allowed. We continue to monitor the State of New York rules for travel into the state. Please go here for updates.
We are ready to go racing and committed to doing it responsibly!
Please join us at Watkins Glen and Virginia International Raceway.
We are looking forward to the second half of our 2020 racing season. The Fall schedule starts with the US Vintage Grand Prix, September 9-13, at Watkins Glen. Less than two weeks later, we will have wheels turning at Virginia International Raceway for the Heacock Classic Gold Cup, September 24-27. These events are going to be live-streamed, so let your friends, family, and fans know that they can join you — via our Free App.
The US Vintage Grand Prix is one of the most popular events on our schedule. The weekend features large fields and great competition in all of SVRA’s race groups. Adding to SVRA's time-honored event traditions is the Alfa Marque Reunion and Governors Cup Race.
The situation remains fluid and we expected updated information to follow soon. In order for us to gauge potential attendance, please informally RSVP (yes or no) to email@example.com.
COVID-19 Update — July 13, 2020
The Grand Prix Festival, which is the off-the-track portion of the weekend, has been canceled. A message from the Chairman of the Festival is pasted below.
"It is with great regret that I write to let you know that the Watkins Glen Promotions Board of Directors has voted to cancel this year’s event in light of the current circumstances. It was not a decision easily made. As many of you know, I tried my best to facilitate some solution that didn’t involve a total event cancellation, but the road blocks just kept popping up. ... Our Admin will be sending out communication to participants and a press release soon but I wanted to let you know today."
The racing weekend is still on until further notice. The rules of the State of NY may prevent spectators from attending but the situation continues to evolve. We expect another update from SVRA the first week in August.
COVID-19 Update — July 8, 2020
As of the 2nd of July, The Friday Alfas at the Glen dinner has been cancelled. Further changes are inevitable. The racing event has not been cancelled and will hopefully be allowed to happen. The New York Governor's current rules in place will make it difficult for the event to go on normally. We are still planning to print t-shirts and posters and will have more information in the coming weeks. Due to the cancellation of the dinner we are re-considering the use of www.motorsportreg.com as our registration site and it is not open for registration at this time. Stay tuned to the AATG site for further updates.
COVID-19 Update — April 15, 2020
To the Alfas at the Glen racers, owners, sponsors and fans;
The Alfas at the Glen Committee first wants to thank you for being a loyal racer, owner, sponsor and fan.
You have likely heard by now that several sanctioning bodies have postponed their race events in accordance with safety protocols recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
SVRA published a revised 2020 schedule, reflecting adherence to national and local safety guidelines in the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic. Watkins Glen International has postponed Opening Weekend until further notice. We have pushed out the Alfas at the Glen dinner registration until further notice and may have to extend this again until we can confirm Alfas at the Glen 2020 will take place.
While we understand the decisions made are met with some feelings of disappointment, we must focus on the safety and well-being of our racers, sponsors and fans. This is a time when decisions made are for the greater good.
We will remain in close communication with SVRA, Alfa Romeo Owners Club, The Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen, Radisson Hotel Corning in Corning, NY as well as our sponsors and rely on the guidance of medical experts, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization as this medical event progresses.
Most importantly, we encourage you to be smart and safe during this challenging time, and to follow the precautionary measures recommended by the CDC and World Health Organization.
The Alfas at the Glen committee appreciates your support and will keep you updated as updates are available.
Alfas at the Glen Committee
On behalf of the organizers of "Alfas at the Glen 2020," we'd like for you to join us September 9–13, 2020, at the historic Watkins Glen Grand Prix Circuit for what is sure to be a great event celebrating "110 Anni di Competizione e Amicizia".
Alfas at the Glen 2020 "110 Years of Competition and Friendship" will offer friends and family, food and racing with activities for both competition and street-driven Alfa Romeo cars. In 2005, 2010 and 2015 AATG boasted over 60 racing Alfas!
With tours of the Finger Lakes wine country and generally beautiful weather this time of year, the convergence of all cars carrying the stylish adaptation of the coat of arms of the Visconti family in the field of Milanese colors makes for magic!
Please make your accommodation arrangements NOW! Corning, Horseheads and Elmira, New York are all good choices as rooms fill quickly in the Watkins Glen/Montour Falls area. A good place to start is at our accommodations page.
All Alfa Romeo powered competition cars that meet recognized sanctioning body classifications and regulations, including current cars, are invited by SVRA and, if entered in the weekend, include a complimentary entry in the "All Alfa Romeo Race."
All attendees will have the opportunity to wander the paddock and see more great Alfa race cars in one place than nearly anywhere else! Watkins Glen and Alfa Romeo: a winning combination.
We will have designated parking areas in the paddock at the track, a welcome reception and a special gala dinner with guest speakers, similar to what was done in 2005, 2010 and 2015 to great effect. We plan to have driver photos, car photos and bios of attendees up on the site as entries are received. Come join us!
Please direct all technical, sponsorship, special cars, press and event publicity, local information and assistance, general inquiries, website inquiries to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
