Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival
U.S. Vintage Grand Prix
Friends,
There is no shortage of events commemorating the century of our beloved marque, Alfa Romeo, in 2010 in the US.
On behalf of the organizers of "Alfas at the Glen '10," we'd like to encourage you to join us during the second weekend in September at the historic Watkins Glen Grand Prix Circuit for what is sure to be a great event!
"Alfas at the Glen '10" will offer friends, family, food and racing with activities for both competition and street-driven Alfa Romeo cars. In 2005, AATG ʼ05 boasted over 60 racing Alfas!
With the fabulous downtown Watkins Glen Festival, tours of the Finger Lakes wine country and generally beautiful weather this time of year, the convergence of all cars carrying the stylish adaptation of the coat of arms of the Visconti family in the field of Milanese colors makes for magic!
Please make your accommodation arrangements NOW! Corning, Horseheads and Elmira, New York are all good choices as rooms fill quickly in the Watkins Glen/Montour Falls area. A good place to start is at our accommodations page.
All Alfa Romeo powered competition cars that meet recognized sanctioning body classifications and regulations, including current cars, are invited by SVRA and, if entered in the weekend, include a complimentary entry in the "All Alfa Romeo Race."
Street cars should investigate and enter the Village of Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival with information located at www.grandprixfestival.com. Sign up now! All attendees will have the opportunity to wander the paddock and see more great Alfa race cars in one place than nearly anywhere else! Watkins Glen and Alfa Romeo: a winning combination.
We will have designated parking areas in the paddock at the track, a welcome reception and a special gala dinner with guest speakers, similar to what was done in 2005 to great effect. We plan to have driver photos, car photos and bios of attendees up on the site as entries are received. Come join us!
Alfas at the Glen (AlfasattheGlen.com) invites all Alfa racers to come to historic Watkins Glen the weekend after Labor Day to help celebrate the 100th year of Alfa Romeo. Already entered are four eight cylinder cars from the thirties and coupes, sedans and spiders from the sixties. There is room for many more; we would like to have cars from the twenties to the eighties, like RLs and 6Cs to Alfa Suds, Berlinas, Alfettas, GTV/6s, Milanos and later spiders.
Contact Peter Krause (alfadoc@mac.com) with any questions about entry eligibility or requirements.
SVRA (SVRA.com) has provided an Alfa only practice session, an Alfa Feature Race and reduced race entry fees for all Alfas. There are multiple activities at the track and the Village of Watkins Glen organizes tours, boat trips on the lake, car shows and reenactments of technical inspection and the original races on the streets and nearby roads. There are activities for the racers and anyone who comes with them; the Watkins Glen area in early fall is magnificent. There will be an "Alfa Dinner" at the track Friday night with "Icons of Alfa Romeo in the US" speaking. Alfa Romeo and Watkins Glen have a "Shared History" with an Alfa winning the first race at Watkins Glen in 1948 (the race winning 8C2900B will be at the track and downtown this year) to the 1975 World Championship win at Watkins Glen with the 33TT12. Come help us add to this history.
